Ask anyone how they think a womans eyes should look and they will probably give you this answer: Big with long eye-lashes. But what most people dont think of is the angle of the eyes. 99% of the modern beauty queens of today have upwardly slanted eyes that is, the point closest to the nose is lower than the point closest to the ear. I call these Cat Eyes.
Cat eyes
Puppy eyes
Take a moment to think about it. How many Hollywood stars and super models have you seen with downwardly slanted eyes? I call them Puppy Eyes. The Cat Eyes ideal may have occurred because of the popularity of the Asian look or it's simply seen as a sign of youth.
Jennifer Lopez has truly got cat eyes.
Eyes that have a straight line can benefit from tricks that make them go upwards as well. (And if you already have Cat Eyes it never hurts to reinforce that look even more.)
Bonnie Tyler's got Puppy Eyes naturally, but she (or whoever does her make-up) is good at making them look like Cat Eyes.
How to apply eyeshadow for parties and photos
Choose a color scheme from the eyeshadow combinations below.
For the brown-eyed and very intensely blue-eyed:
Light brown dark brown black
or
silver gray black
or
light purple/silver dark purple black.
For the gray/blue-eyed:
light blue dark blue black
or
silver gray black
or
pink red dark brown
or
white turkquoise black.
For the green-eyed:
Light brown dark brown black
or
silver gray black
or
light green dark green black.
Did you notice how each scheme goes from the brightest to the darkest? Ok, then lets start:
(See the pic of the final result below.)
Start with the brightest color and cover the entire eyelid, all the way up to the eyebrow and around the inner corner of the eye.
Then take the middle shade and apply it right beside the inner corner, through the middle of the eyelid and all the way to the outer end. Make sure you get a discreet transition between the colors. Use a q-tip.
Finally, apply the darkest of the three colors to the middle of the eyelid and and let it go outside the eyelid and upwards in a triangular shape.
Once you have done this, apply some eyeliner (liquid or firm) right above the eyelashes. Also draw a thin line inside the lower eyelashes with your eyeliner pencil. If you find it hard to apply firm eyeliner on top of the eyeshadow, there are also liquid eyeliners called.
Finally put some dark eyeshadow below the lower eyelashes to meet up with the eyeliner on the upper lid.
Dont forget the mascara. It will give you an even more stunning result!
Do the same as above but only use one of the eyeshadow colors, preferably a dark one if you want to change the shape of your eyes. Dont use it with as much pressure as you did above. Apply eyeliner and eyeliner pencil and of course, mascara.
A more subtle everyday make-up:
As for big eyes... well, actually eyes can be too big. If your whites are much larger than your iris, you might get a staring look. Some eyeliner above the upper eyelashes as well as inside the lower eyelashes will make your eyes look smaller and more confident.
If you want to read about glasses, there's a section about it on the Face shape page.
